Founder Friday: Slaying The Dragon Fruit, A Summer Nécessité

Share Shop

Let me be honest with you: Summer 2020 was a season where I truly allowed myself to receive, grow, and be nurtured. I utilized that time to experiment and to try new things. I connected to Mother Earth (I greatly expanded my herb garden, which now carries fruits and vegetables, grounded all summer). I created new recipes (falafels and homemade pizza dough, to name a couple). I ate things I usually would not eat (tomatoes from our mini garden). Fast forward to Summer 2021 and those practices are still very much a nécessité!

I tried new foods (mulberries — yum!). I went deeper with my self-care and self-love by elevating my vibrational frequency. I prayed deeper. I used my singing bowls daily. I did more gentle yoga. I did another liver cleanse. I bought a 1000 piece puzzle (I’m starting it soon, want to help!?). I trimmed my own hair. I wore no nail or toe polish for five months (and counting—a first for me, my nails are always covered). I went back to using a landline phone. I took more baths than ever. I have not traveled (for the first time in this gypsy life). I read books new and old. I did not shop. I donated (as always). I helped many individuals. And my list goes on.

One recipe I make every day—which I cannot get enough of—is for Dragon Fruit (aka Pitaya) smoothies and bowls. I like to believe that the Magnesium from this fruit has provided me with quality sleep most nights (no pills ever, only essential oils). The fruit is also known to be high in fiber, with lots of vitamins and minerals. I cannot get enough of it and I offer it authentic praise. I am going to miss making it as I prepare my body to eat for the fall (I am all about eating for the season). But until then, I am dragon fruiting it up until the first official day of autumn. I made smoothies with it, but also created a dragon fruit bowl, adding mulberries, wild blueberries, and fresh strawberries (from our garden) on top.

If you can find organic sources for these items, great, but if not, get what you can and be sure to wash all the items well.

Below I share two of my easy, nutrient-packed, beloved summer recipes with you, from my kitchen and heart to yours.

Dragon Fruit Smoothie:

  • 1 pack of frozen Dragon Fruit packet
  • 2 bananas (frozen or not)
  • 1/2 cup of frozen Wild Blueberries (wild blueberries have more antioxidants than regular blueberries, but use what you can get)
  • 1/2 cup of Coconut water (add liquid based on your desire of consistency)
  • Put all the above ingredients in a blender (I use a Vitamix) and blend to your personal preference.
  • Give thanks, drink it up, and receive all the nutrients. Delicious.

*Note: It’s very high in antioxidants since the wild blueberries are added.

Dragon Fruit Bowl:

  • 1 pack of frozen Dragon Fruit packet
  • 1 banana (frozen or not)
  • Sliced strawberries added on top
  • 1 tablespoon of mulberries, or your choice of berries
  • If water is required, add a bit of coconut water.
  • The more water you add, the runnier the consistency is, but less is my personal preference.
  • Put all the above ingredients in a blender (I use a Vitamix) and blend to your personal preference.
  • Give thanks, eat it up slowly and receive all the nutrients. Beyond.
