Founder Friday: nécessité Honors Black History Month

Share

As we spent the month honoring Black History/Herstory, there is never enough time to shine more light on such talent, inventions, creatives, historical figures, icons, and more. We believe in honoring people and educating ourselves daily.

Therefore, I’d like to share with you here some things that I once had no idea were created and invented by black men and women.

Did you know…

  • The mailbox (letterbox) that you drop mail in was invented by Philip B. Downing in 1891
  • WWI Gas Masks in 1914 as well as the 3-stop traffic light were invented by Garret Morgan in 1923 (my dad worked with his grand-daughter), to only name a few of his inventions.
  • The improved ironing board was invented by Sarah Boone in 1892
  • Potato Chips were invented by George Crum in 1853
  • Home Security System was invented by Mary Van Brittan Brown in 1966
  • Clothes Dryer was invented by George T. Sampson in 1892
  • The Dust Pan was invented by Lloyd P. Ray in 1897
  • Ice Cream Scooper was invented by Alfred L. Cralle in 1897
  • The Mop was invented by Thomas W. Stewart in 1893
  • Reversible Baby Stroller was invented by William H. Richardson in 1889
  • This is some great trivia to ask your children and other loved ones this weekend. It does not have to stop here.

Did you know any of this?

Please tell me what may have surprised you in the comments below. It lets us know how well our schools are diversified in educating us and our children (Food for thought).
