You know the drill. You lay down in bed, hoping to catch that much-needed 8 hours of sleep only to have your mind start racing. Of course, your brain chooses this time to start plotting out tomorrow’s to-do list and obsessing over the details of how to get each task done. After struggling through countless sleepless nights, I decided to do something about it. And that’s how I found Tibetan singing bowls.
What are Tibetan singing bowls?
Long used by Buddhist monks in meditation practice, Tibetan singing bowls are actually a type of bell that vibrates and produces a deep, rich tone when played. They are usually made up of a combo of different metal alloys and can be found in many sound meditations.
How do they work?
Singing bowls produce particular sound waves that modify your brain waves on a theta level. These waves are said to enhance awareness, “harmonize the cells,” and recalibrate your body’s energetic vibrations to bring balance.
What are the health benefits of Tibetan singing bowls?
Many wellness practitioners will use singing bowls in treatments to relieve stress and physical pain, as well as promote relaxation. Some also believe that the sound bowls can stimulate the immune system and help control heart rate. Most people will find themselves in a deep meditative state after being bathed with the sound of the Tibetan singing bowl.
How can it help me sleep?
For those of us who suffer with an overactive mind (especially when we’re trying to sleep), I highly recommend purchasing a sound bowl recording or streaming one from Spotify. You can find recordings at many yoga studios and healing centers across the country. Not all of the sounds are the same, play with them, try different tones and see what resonates with you. Happy sleeping!
