Founder Friday: Happy Easter, Happy Good Friday, Simply Happy with Erica Reid

Share

Dear nécessité,

Happy Good Friday. How are you? Are you enjoying your April so far? I love the extra days of sun and an opportunity to get some vitamin D and see all the added colors of flowers in bloom. Such beauty added to our beautiful canvas of life. This weekend I will celebrate and honor the holiday of Easter. What about you? I am not sure what I will do yet, but I pray to share the holiday with family and possibly some friends. I do get into the decorations of holidays because I love décor.

Anything festive tickles my fancy. The nostalgia of Easter also adds warmth to my spirit. I recall the days decorating and making it special for my children rather than remembering the days when I was younger, although I loved those days of my childhood. My mother was a single mom 24/7 because we did not live in the same state as our dad, so she had to work full-time, and she also had to do all the holidays for us without a mate.
There were no nannies or hired assistance in our home.

Our holidays were when we all got to come together because the other days were for work and school, and we did not have it where we were driven around to see friends or family during the week. We had to wait for the occasion to arise, like on Easter. Our beautiful Nana would take us shopping if our mother was not off from work. On Easter, we gathered with our cousins and had FUN. We put together talent shows, unwrapped and devoured milk-chocolate-covered eggs, and collected as many dyed eggs as possible we could fill in our baskets. As a younger girl and with my children when they were younger, it used to be about getting special clothes to be cute in and go to church, getting hair done, and putting on Sunday best, oh and let’s not forget making art on easter eggs.

We had to represent. I truly loved this pastime with my children. It was as much fun to me as it was to them. I loved it. The kid in me loved it. I still do. It was special. Now, my kids are not into wearing fancy clothes, but if duty calls for it, they will. I was going to do an Easter egg hunt, but I think now we are doing brunch, and I’ll leave these little treats for them on the table or on their pillow for when they wake up, as a bit of message that the bunny came while you were sleeping and said hello. That is the commercial part of it for us. Oh, I have decided too; I am not cooking on Easter. I cook every day of the year almost, so this one, I am resting and not cleaning dishes.

To celebrate the meaning of Easter for me, I will honor GOD with praise and worship. I’ll pray, talk, listen and meditate, enjoy, give thanks and relish in the day. Pretty much like I do every day, but to give thanks for the meaning of Easter. I’ll watch church on tv and listen to great vocals for praise and worship, and I am so looking forward to spending it with Andre Bocelli, Joel Osteen, Mariah Carey, Kanye West (his Sunday Service is so good and very touching to me). Calm down; I’ll be spending it with them on tv; care to join? I am looking forward to this and my spirit being lifted and fed.

Do you have any traditions or plans for this Easter weekend? Please share with me; I am excited to hear and learn more about you.
However you choose to celebrate this special holiday weekend; know that I wish you a great, safe, and healthy weekend and a very Happy Easter. Take time to honor what this holiday means.

Happy Easter. Know that GOD is with you.

Much love and gratitude, Erica Reid
