Founder Friday: Summer Love for Self with Erica Reid

Dear nécessité,

Happy August, beautiful.  How are you? I must admit, I have felt pretty darn good the last few days. THANK GOD. I am enjoying life’s pleasures of summer and the simplicity of it all. I have learned that the main glow truly comes from within. I repeat, from within.  Not from any outward source. Not from a new bag, dessert, a partner, or anything material and tangible.  It is the things that money cannot buy—doing right to another, being honorable and respectful to self, praying, staying connected, and honestly loving yourself. I am deeply loving more and more on me, and it feels so so so fantastic.  I am juicing daily (I started in the 90’s) and taking advantage of the summer veggies and fruits.  I love my carrot juice and eating cherries, among a few others. I do 1-2 baths daily. (I fill up less water in the morning than in the evenings to be mindful of water use).

Self-love Reminder

I love a good bath. My muscles and my physical being have been through much which impacts me mentally and emotionally, so I try to help myself by soaking in warm baths and also to help keep my nervous system and my overall mental being calm. I like to meditate while in the bath and receive guidance. This is one way for me but not the only way I meditate. I provide my skin extra love by using scrubs to help remove the dead skin since I am in the sun more in the summer. I aim to keep my skin healthy and supple, and soft. After all, our skin is one of our organs and the largest organ we were blessed with.

Stay Hydrated

I am going all out for myself these last few weeks we have of this August before we shift into fall. I love all the seasons and the beauty each season offers. Let’s use this August time before summer 2022 no longer exist to give some extra love to ourselves. Take a few baby steps. Be kind and gentle with yourself and do what works for you. Load up on the colorful, vibrant nutrients August offers. Here is our August list to help you with some food choices for this month. And be sure to stay hydrated with clean, clear water! It supports the muscles, skin, colon, and digestive system.

If you need to pause, pause. Connect more with nature if you feel stuck (like I sometimes do). These are talking moments. They are talking to us and telling us what we require in the moment. Embrace it. And remember to breathe! (inhale and exhale mindfully throughout the day).
