Founder Friday: Black History Month with Erica Reid

Share

Dear nécessité,

Happy Day beauty. How are you? Welcome to February. As we honor Black History Month, I reflect on my children’s school-age years, where they only heard and mentioned Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou, and Dizzy Gillespie at school in their classrooms.

When you think about it, why do we not take more time honoring more people and teaching appropriately so we are exposed and well-informed? After all, we are all humans and live in the same world. If we are properly educated, we can learn in hopes of gaining some understanding.

We are never too ‘anything’ to learn. I am always learning, and one thing I share with you this Black History Month is our Did you know? I must admit it; I was clueless here.

Did you know……Hidden Valley Ranch was created by a black man named Steve Henson. I had no idea, either. Yes, the famous salad dressing you probably had more than once before becoming dairy-free or vegan. I know I devoured it plenty of times back in the day.

And dipped a few chips in it too. Yum! I used to chug it along with carrots and celery sticks as well. It was the most addicting salad dressing I have ever had (I no longer take in dairy or bottled salad dressings). I believe he was a black cowboy from Nebraska (born Kenneth).

Who knew, right? Did you? I had no idea and learned this during a random conversation with friends, so I had to share.

Happy Black History Month.

Much Love and Gratitude,
