Founder Friday: Juicing for Health with Erica Reid

Dear nécessité,

Hi beautiful, how are you doing? Please ask yourself this question- “How am I doing?” “How am I overall”? If you feel off balance somewhere or disconnected, create the balance by looking deeper to see where you can honor more stableness and reconnect with yourself a bit more by adding more moments of sitting still with yourself.  For example, take a walk around the block. This is great to do to connect with GOD and nature. To connect with self. It can become meditative. (Meditating is not only sitting with legs crossed and eyes closed). It is springtime, get out and take advantage of this season we are in. Answers will reveal themselves to you; you must create the environment for them to do so.

In the ’90s, when I faced my first serious health challenge (My skin, talk about uncomfortable), it took years to find the answers. I was desperate to get better, not temporarily. I wanted to heal. I had already had my tonsils out (avoidable, I believe)—no one connected inflammation and what I was eating to cause the trigger to irritate my tonsils. In my opinion and experience, looking back, a bag of candy every night with toxic food coloring right before bed was absolutely a contributing factor.

That processed sweetener sat in my throat overnight and did its job, causing inflammation and havoc. If I had changed my diet then, my tonsils would have improved and not required surgery, I did not know to connect food to health then, but I do now. (This was my journey, follow your trusted healthcare professional for your situation) Surgery to check for endometriosis (my diet, I am convinced). Each time in my life when I have been forced to face my health (since my college days on) and to restore and renew, it makes me go deeper with myself and on a quest for true healing and honesty.

The longest and hardest health challenge I have ever experienced has been recovering from accidents that affect me overall. When one part of the body is impacted or jolted, it can cause an overall effect in many other areas. Why? Because it is all connected! We know this; we are smart. Remember the song-The hip bone is connected to the thigh bone, the thigh bone is connected to the knee bone, and the knee bone is connected to the… this song was educating us all way back then.

Every bone, joint, tendon, fascia, and muscle are all connected. A hit to the head, hello neck pain, and more…. Holistic health is VITAL! Look at all of me, not a piece of me. I was first introduced to acidophilus during this specific health time in the ’90s. I was like, acid what. I became a student of health from this day on.

This was when I began eating vegetarian, then vegan, and plant-based. I also started juicing for the first time in the 90’s during this intro to healing. I was juicing vegetables and wheat grass daily, doing yoga, journaling more, drinking tons of water, and not from plastic. I completely changed my life and the choices I was allowed to enter and be applied to my body. Thank you, the 90s!

I am very sensitive. More sensitive than most in my inner circle. As a result, I am extremely aware—a true empath. My intuition has been one of my biggest gifts from God. As a result, I can properly nurture my husband and family in a way no one else can (Not on a surface level, I’m speaking real, different, deeper). They know this to their core; it’s a deep connection. After all, I have been with them consistently, not for two years, but for over 20 years—a big difference. I can tell when they need to shift and recalibrate. When they appear off, they must do their own self-work, I help and support in other ways, but I also must go to my medicine cabinet-the refrigerator!

I juice and drink juice daily. It has been my saving and healing grace many times. The minerals, vitamins, and enzymes offered are truly a gift from GOD. It is a part of Mother Earth, GOD. How many times has your doctor told you, “You are eating too many leafy green vegetables, and as a result, it is causing your blood levels to show harm to this part of your body”? I trust GOD’s food, do you? I see and know the difference. I am the difference. I am proof. Healing is a journey.

If you are looking to reset, reboot, or restore, consider juicing and adding fresh organic juice to your regime. Organic is important because you want to avoid drinking the added toxins sprayed on the veggies. Why drink toxins?

Do not be afraid when juicing. Make it work for you. Take baby steps if you are new to adding nutrients from this source to your system. Start with half of a glass and work your way up to a full glass. I believe in juicing fruit with fruit and vegetables with vegetables. I do not mix them; it can be too much on the digestive system.

Carrot Juice is one of my best friends. It is known to help with lung issues and cellular health, and it also provides vitamin A, amongst many other vital nutrients we may be deficient in. Carrot (8oz) and celery (8oz) are a great mix I enjoy together in one glass if my nervous system needs calming support. Be sure to get all organic produce, especially if it has no skin that can be peeled off, and rinse well.

Enjoy all the beauty of GOD’s food available to us right now, as it is a gift from GOD. Happy Juicing.
