Founder Friday: Thank you, Harry Belafonte, and Thank You, Tina Turner, with Erica Reid

Share

Dear nécessité,

I want to express my gratitude for this moment we are sharing. Your love and support mean a lot to me, and I want you to know that I appreciate you. I often remind myself how precious life is and how important it is to cherish every moment and every person in our lives. We are all spiritual beings having a human experience, and it is essential to remember this reality. Therefore, I strive to be patient and not take anything or anyone for granted because one day, all we’ll have is the memory of them. So, let’s always be conscious of this and treasure every moment we have together.

I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude and pay tribute to the legendary and iconic Harry Belafonte and Tina Turner. They are incredibly talented, creative, and inspiring individuals who are not only leaders and champions but also survivors and compassionate human beings. My admiration and appreciation for both of them is from my mother, who made me aware of them when I was younger.

During my college years, I worked as a hostess in a restaurant to support myself and pay for tuition. One evening, a customer asked if I was related to Shari Belafonte, which was a flattering comparison. My smile only became wider. Although I am not related to her, I was grateful for the compliment and have remembered it fondly. Thank you.

Mr. Belafonte, you are appreciated for being yourself. Thank you for sharing your valuable insights and for being a champion of humanitarian causes. Your dedication to service has inspired many of us to follow your lead and make a positive impact in the world. I want to express my gratitude for the impact you have made. Your contributions to activism and the entertainment industry, including your movies like “Carmen Jones,” your music, and your catchy song titles such as “Man Smart Woman Smarter,” are truly appreciated. Not only were you a handsome individual, but your talents and generosity have left a lasting impression. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us.

Ms. Turner, Ms. Turner, Ms. Turner, what a force of nature! Thank you for being a pillar of strength. For being brave. Making bold moves. Sharing all of you with all of us. Your energy, your spirit, your legs, that smile, the voice, the hair, the walk, the moves, the journey. Many of us have learned from you that despite how things may seem, we can take charge and create change. You showed us happiness is accessible to everyone, but it requires much effort. We must do the work individually. Go within. We must choose to forgive and have hope instead of despair. You were the chosen example of this, thank you!

I appreciate your honesty, openness, and acknowledgment of the healing power that comes with self-love and sharing. Thank you for sharing your Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. I am sure your positive energy will undoubtedly be felt and expressed by many this Halloween. (Tina costumes galore) I’m grateful to Harry Belafonte and Tina Turner for their contributions. To celebrate, perhaps take some time this weekend to sing, dance, watch a movie, and express gratitude for the great gifts bestowed upon us by God.
