Dear nécessité,
Hey gorgeous. What’s cooking good-looking? If you are in America, are you feeling the cold weather? Wow. I have never felt cold weather like this before in LA. It’s not typical LA chilly; this is something a bit different.
As you know, I have had to go back and forth to NYC to handle and care for me, and so many times, the weather in NYC was warmer than in LA. Unfamiliar to me, do you think so?
As we honor and celebrate black culture this month, I am sharing another. Did you know…
Did you know a black woman invented the first-ever home security system?
I love learning; I had no idea. Did you know this bit of history? Marie Van Brittan Brown created the first-ever home security system and filed the patent in 1966.
She and her husband, Albert Brown, lived in Queens, NY. The crime then was at high stake; therefore, she wanted to feel more protected and secure in her home.
She created the first initial home security system that has since been modified and made modern from her inspiration of an idea that she created and made possible for many today to have home security systems. Her invention had several features back then.
Do you have a home security system? If so, the next time you use it, think about who invented it and made it possible for you to have a home security system, and whisper, thank you.
Thank you for sharing and celebrating Black History Month with us here at nécessité.
I hope you enjoyed our Did you know… and learning black history with us.
Keep learning; we do not need to wait for the next 12 months to do so.
Thank you for your time.
Much love and gratitude,
Erica Reid
